Ibero-American Exhibition of 1929

Guided tour of the Plaza de España, the María Luisa Park and the Pavilions of the Ibero-American Exhibition of 1929

Guided visit to the 1929 Exhibition in Seville

In 1909 the idea was proposed to hold an important event in Seville that would serve as a pretext to bring the city out of its tremendous backwardness by carrying out major public works and promoting tourism. In 1911 the prestigious French landscape designer Forestier was commissioned to redesign 140 hectares of the Maria Luisa Park and surrounding areas to host the Exposition. This guided tour is designed to learn about the history of the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929, and to delve into an era of splendour for the city of Seville.

The great architect Aníbal González, the father of Sevillian Regionalism, was in charge of the architectural work. The project, however, was postponed due to various events such as the First World War, and went through many difficulties until its completion in May 1929. The participation of the Iberian countries, colonies, Spanish and Portuguese America, as well as various companies and commercial firms, was achieved. It was an economic failure, not because Seville was not the ideal city to host a trade fair, but because it coincided with the Great Depression and the fall of the New York Stock Exchange, but it left a very important cultural legacy for the city.

The entrance to the Exhibition is through the statue of the Cid, the popular “Caballo” and we continue towards the Plaza de España, María Luisa Park, Plaza de América, going down the Paseo de las Delicias towards the Avenida de María Luisa.

The tour lasts approximately two and a half hours, during which we will walk around the main monuments of the Ibero-American Exhibition of 1929.

My aim is that you get to know my city in a pleasant and friendly way. All my guided tours are adapted to each visitor, taking into account their personal tastes. Seville offers a lot, a wide cultural heritage, a rich gastronomy or vibrant traditions. That’s why showing this city, not only requires knowledge but also knowing how to connect and move the public, and this is given by the experience of more than 25 years that I have been an official local guide in Seville. In Sevilla Walks you will find different types of tours always adapted to the public to which they are finally addressed.
